I wonder about dosage. I found a site where these (and others) were recommended for dogs, but I don't know if the same dosages listed would translate to humans.

yep. antibiotics, steroids, painkillers, antibiotic eye cream [very important because eye infections can cause blindness with 24-48 hours.].You can get the antibiotic eye drops on some of the pet sites without a prescription.

500mg is 500mg. As well they have 250mg. They also sell Fish Flex (Cephalexen), Fish Pen (Penicillin), Fish Cillin (Ampicillin), Fish Cycline (Tetracycline) and others...

I would personally stick with wild oregano oil, its a better broad spectrum antibiotic. No worry about antibiotic resistance, and it kills fungus and viruses also.

Last time I took my cat to the vet for vaccinations, he prescribed "it" penicillin for the throat/chest infection I had. It's all the same stuff, as long as you are capable of working out the dosage - which is fairly easy. No charge, and beat taking a morning off to go to the doctor. Of course the vaccinations cost nearly $70, but that's the price you pay... if you get paid less than that for half a day's work then go and find another job. Maybe as a vet?

This is excellent advice. We'd all do well to heed it, yes! Data shows it works quite well. Much safer too and does not kill good gut bacteria.

To purchase it, or for info?

I usually buy it at the health food store. You can order it online and also find some info about it here:

Thanks for the Oil of Oregano tip. I will be purchasing some of that as well. The Amox is just for an emergency situation, the Oil of O seems to be a great product to have and use.

If dry and sealed, more than ten years, possibly twenty. If not -a year or two. Pills exposed to humidity like to go mouldy, and antibiotics like to go mouldy!

I'm sure most of them last a very long time, but don't store any tetracyline class antibiotics too far beyond their expiration. They don't just lose potency, but will decompose into a toxic chemical that will damage your kidneys.

years ago I used to go to the pet store and get Tetracycline when I was sick.
I figured if it didn't kill the fish it wouldn't kill me....
worked well.
Last Time I looked they didn't carry it

I don't get sick much anymore...but that oregano oil looks like a good thing to have on hand.

This is handy info; Thanks for posting. It drives me nuts that the big meat producers can just dump dump a bunch of prophylactic antibiotics into cattle feed, but you hafta take the time to show up at the Dr's office and pay a ton for the visit and convince them you're practically dying to get human antibiotics.

Some of the oil spilled and wiped the expiration off my bottle, but I remember it was at least a couple years out. Its probably good way beyond the expiration.

Tea Tree Oil is a great external antibiotic/antifungal as is plain old garlic oil or honey. I used to go to the local Tractor Supply ag store for antibiotics all the time. That was before I learned of their downsides and before I learned of more natural ways to take care of my problems with herbals.
